Located in Ballygaunge, South Kolkata, the Birla Mandir is an exemplary work of art. The temple happens to be the city’s major crowd puller. The grand monument was built by the Birla Family and took roughly 26 years to complete. It was opened to the public in 1996. One of the architectural grandeurs of the city, the craftsmanship of the temple is a hallmark of its magnificence. Inspired by the Lingraj Temple, Bhubaneswar, the architecture offers an exquisite blend of modern and contemporary styles. Engravings from the Bhagavat Gita in the interiors are quite spectacular. The ceilings are bedecked with exquisite chandeliers. Dedicated to Lord Krishna and his consort Radha, Janmastami is one of the best times to visit the temple when the entire complex is illuminated. Apart from that, the regular evening aarti is also a sight to behold. Once in the city, a visit to the Birla Mandir will definitely leave you feeling more blessed.
