Historic area with charming Arabic architecture
Like Deira, Bur Dubai is one of the city’s oldest districts, and is the only place where visitors can view architecture dating back more than 30 years. Bastakiya, Heritage Village and the house of the former ruler Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum all hark back to the 19th century (some more restored than others), and each give a glimpse of what life was like in the region pre-development.
Near the Creek lies the Old Souk, a network of cobbled lanes, traditional archways and colourful stalls hawking touristy trinkets. Even those not in the market for pashminas and shisha pipes will appreciate the souk’s “1,001 Nights” vibe.
