Efforts were made by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to clear snow from the highway, but bad weather delayed their target of opening the road for tourist by the third week of May.
Referring to this, SDM Manali Ashwini Kumar said fresh snowfall kept blocking the roads again and again, and BRO has been working hard to open the road for vehicular movement before election. Therefore, as of now, to facilitate the tourists, people from Kullu, Lahaul and Pangi will be allowed to travel till Marhi.
Ashwani further added that initially 1200 vehicles will be allowed till Marhi, and the Tourism Department has also been asked to use JCB machines to increase parking capacity and remove snow.
Many hoteliers are of the view that many keep postponing their Manali trip until the Rohtang Pass opens. And with this news coming in, it is expected Manali will likely see a surge in tourism soon.
