This airport, along with Delhi and Mumbai International Airports, is also counted among the country’s best airports, and boasts of many added features.
If reports are to go by, construction of the second terminal began in October 2018, with plans to complete work on expansion of the airport in two phases. It is expected that the terminal will be able to cater to air traffic volume growth over the next decade.
The highlight of this terminal are its interiors, and feature hanging gardens and bamboo-lattice work finish. The airport also unveiled the novel features in its ‘Terminal in a Garden’ theme.
Once inside the terminal, one can witness decorative planters hanging from the ceiling and overall, there are 500 such systems, each holding hundreds of plants. In short, there are more than 150,000 live plants of various species hanging from the ceiling alone.
Apart from this, reportedly, there are around 450,000 plants growing in the green walls that line the corridor between the check-in counters and security gates.
Another major highlight of this terminal is its bamboo motif, and the manner in which the roof and pillars of the airport terminal are clad with engineered bamboo, which is long lasting and fire retardant.
The new terminal is being compared to Singapore’s famous Changi Airport, one of the prettiest airports in the world. We leave the comparisons to you.
