The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is now planning to carry out smart-baggage system trials that would be powered by Artificial Intelligence or AI. The first-of-a-kind system that is going to detect threats is an automatic system; AI is going to detect these during the screening of baggage. It will also alert the operators at the same time.
According to officials from AAI, the purpose is to provide better service, and simultaneously improve the structure of the airports in the country. A programme called, Innovate for Airports Programme was organised under the Startup India initiative, and this new system is a result of the same. Startups have been providing ideas and solutions for airports in India under the programme. Eight startups from about 350 were selected to implement their solutions across airports in the country.
The Baggage AI system is believed to be an extra layer of security protection for airports in the country, and can be seen as a boon. According to reports, this system has been developed by Dimensionless Technologies, who believe that with the help of an AI, the smallest things can be easily detected, that too in different shades and colour.
AI can be used in the future for numerous other services, as we have seen recently in the USA, three airports started a type of CT scanner with the help of AIs that detect threats.
