Tosh is located at the far end of Parvati Valley near the last road head of Barshaini. Barshaini (Also Barsheni) is the last point for the buses. In the past, Tosh was only accessible through an uphill walk but a recent bumpy road has meant that the 3 km distance between Barshaini and Tosh can be covered in a taxi. Tosh is located at approximately 2400 m above sea level. It is one of the most popular destinations in Parvati Valley and has an out of the world feel. The road development has meant that there are more guest houses and hotels than local homes and an endless soundtrack of trance music dominates the scene. Still, the feel is energetic and the air is clean under the gaze of mighty Himalayan peaks. There are many hippie cafés serving food from around the world in Tosh with the interiors decorated with psychedelic graffiti and paintings. Tosh is also famous for trance festivals that are conducted in high season of June-July.
Views from the far end of Tosh are best and stretch across the valley and the guest houses on that side are among the better ones too, albeit costly. There is a temple of Jamdagini Rishi, located in a courtyard in the centre of Tosh and visitors are not allowed to enter ; a placard suggests fine of up to INR 5000 for visitors who enter. Interested folks can also find their way to the enigmatic village of Kutla, close to Tosh.
