Travellers will soon derive joy arriving and departing in the train from Lucknow’s Charbagh Railway Station as the railhead has been chosen for a brand new look. As the traffic to the station is rising, refurbishing it big time seems imperative to the railway officials.
In order to render a look akin to international airports, the Indian Railways has planned for a 180 metre long concourse to cover the platforms on Charbagh Railway Station. The makeover plan also includes Kalzip roofing which would feature a retail zone, washrooms, waiting area, polyclinics, food court, shopping zone, ATM, drinking water and more. In addition, the railway station will get two more platforms to deal with the rising rail and human traffic.

According to press reports, the makeover plan aims to retain the exterior heritage appearance of the railway station and refashion the interior by every bit and even render a disabled-friendly look to it.
As an icing on cake, the Charbagh Junction will be linked to the Lucknow Metro service, and will be extended further.
The Lucknow Railway Station was built at an expense of INR 70 lakhs even before India gained independence. It was a large orchard comprising four gardens before getting transformed into a railhead. Hence, it was named, ‘Char Bagh.’
