Minister Khaunte outlined that the bill aims to provide a new direction for tourism in Goa, tackling illegal activities and promoting sustainable development. He expressed confidence that the legislation would invigorate the tourism sector, generate employment, and enhance the state's economy.
The bill has been crafted with input from all relevant parties. Presentations will be conducted over the next 10 days for ministers, legislators, and industry stakeholders to elucidate the bill's provisions.
Addressing the need to maintain a competitive edge in tourism, Khaunte emphasised the importance of supporting local businesses. He noted that 27 committees have been established to develop tourism clusters, with revenue distribution planned accordingly.
The bill was formulated following an 18-month study by a specialised agency. Tourism dynamics have changed considerably over the past four to five decades, necessitating updates to outdated laws. This bill is the result of 33 meetings with the TTAG, stakeholders, police, other departments, and experts.
