Mumbai adds a new feather to its hat with the recent inauguration of the first Children’s Museum, curated by 25 children between the age of 8 to 15 years. The children belong to different economic strata of the society. Built in a space of 6000 sq ft in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, this museum displays exhibits made by children.
According to the news reports, the museum authorities refrained from exhibiting dolls, toys and similar things, and instead preferred focusing on art and history in an innovative manner. The objects on display at the museum comprise bronze statues of the Madiya tribe, performing their folk dance to a spinning wheel charkha, which implies non-violence as per Gandhian philosophy.
The Children’s Museum visitors’ hours are 10:15 AM to 6 PM from Monday to Sunday.
