Think of Darjeeling, and your mind conjures up flashes of green hill slopes, snow-topped peaks and women plucking tea in the fields. This Himalayan jewel is a place of breathtaking beauty and one of the most stunning hill resorts in the country. From flaming red rhododendron flowers to the serene white magnolias, and the lush green of the tea bushes to the haze of the silver fir under the blanket of blue sky; there’s a reason Darjeeling is referred to as the queen of hill stations. Famous the world over for its tea industry and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway which has been given the statud of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, there’s lots aside from the beauty to keep you occupied. For the more adventurous traveller, trekking here is a great option. Back in the day, the first organised trekking route in India was established here along the Sangalila range. The route begins in Darjeeling and proceeds through Maneybhanjyang, Tonglu, Sandakphu and ends in Phalut.
