Delhi-Lucknow-Delhi among top ten domestic air routes in India, suggest reports

According to reports, India’s ever-growing domestic air traffic has seen some changes as routes such as Delhi-Pune-Delhi, Delhi-Kolkata-Delhi, and Delhi-Lucknow-Delhi, have had a significant growth between 2007 and 2017 in terms of number of seats allotted. Other routes such as the Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi, Delhi-Bengaluru-Delhi, Mumbai-Bengaluru-Mumbai, and Delhi-Hyderabad-Delhi have been dominating the top air routes in India in terms of passenger seats.

While many sectors were unable to see any shift in their standings, it has been reported that the number of seats in each sector has grown in the last ten years.
Certain busy air routes also moved down the ladder, which includes Mumbai-Chennai-Mumbai, which was at 3rd position in terms of number of seats in 2007, to the 10th place in 2017. Moreover, Mumbai-Ahmedabad-Mumbai sector moved down from 8th position in 2007 to 15th in 2017. Also, Mumbai-Kolkata-Mumbai sector has moved down from 12th to 17th place.

Reports also suggested that data collected from 17 sectors showed airlines allocating 47 percent of the seats to top five sectors in 2017, as against the 43 percent allotted in 2007.

Some of the numbers are as follows:
Total number of seats on the Delhi-Ahmedabad-Delhi route saw an increase, from about 12.62 lakh in 2007 to 13.71 lakh in 2014. The number of seats later rose sharply to 16.72 lakh in 2015, 21.36 lakh in 2016 and 25.18 lakh in 2017. The number of seats on Delhi-Pune-Delhi route doubled in seven years, while Delhi-Kolkata-Delhi witnessed 25 percent rise in the number of seats from 2007 to 2014. Later, from 2014 to 2017, it increased by 55 percent.
