Tabo is a small village situated at an altitude of 3280 m on the banks of the Spiti River. There is an old monastic complex that is believed to be the holiest of all monasteries. Many old paintings and frescos dating back to the 11th century have been preserved here. No artificial light or photography is allowed inside the gompa. On the cliff, opposite the road, are some old caves that are said to be the dwellings of monks. If you plan to halt in Tabo to experience the quietude and serenity of the place then you can stay in the monastery guest house. There are some other guest houses too in the village where you can book rooms in case you do not get accommodation at the guest house of the monastery.
