Did you notice these iconic Indian monuments on our currency notes?
Have you looked closely at our Indian currency notes? We are talking about the new Mahatma Gandhi Series currency notes that became a part of the circulation since November 10, 2016. From 2016 to 2019, we had few new currency notes of different denominations printed, and they are beautiful to say the least. All of them had iconic Indian monuments printed on them to celebrate India’s cultural diversity. Let’s take a look at them.
Konark Sun temple on INR 10
Konark Temple, one of the most iconic sites in India, is Odisha’s pride. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is an architectural marvel; a site that was once used as a sundial. This iconic sun temple is printed on the back of the new INR 10 note. This currency note became a part of the circulation in January 2018.
Kailash Temple and Ellora Caves on INR 20
Turn over your INR 20 note and you will find a beautiful image of one of the pillars of Kailash Temple. The currency note that came into being in 2019, puts focus on the Ellora Caves where one will find Kailash Temple, an incredible work of architecture. It is the grandest of all monolithic temples in India.
Hampi on INR 50
Have you been to Hampi, the erstwhile seat of the Vijayanagara Kingdom? Find it on the back of the new INR 50 note. The currency note states Hampi and the image is that of the famous stone chariot of the Vithala Temple Complex in Hampi. It is indeed one of the most recognised monuments in Hampi. The INR 50 currency note came into existence in August, 2017.
Rani ki Vav on INR 100
The new INR 100 note features the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Rani ki Vav, located in Patan, Gujarat. It is also known as the Queen's Stepwell. This intricately designed stepwell was built as a memorial to the 11th century king Bhim Dev I. The currency note came into existence in July 2018.
Sanchi Stupa on INR 200
The Sanchi Stupa is one of the most renowned Buddhist monuments in India. It is located in the town of Sanchi, in the state of Madhya Pradesh. This famous stupa is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and holds immense historical and religious significance. The currency note came into existence in August 2017.
Red Fort on INR 500
The currency note became a part of the circulation on November 10, 2016, right after demonetisation was announced on November 8, 2016. The whole country saw the currency and what was printed on its back – Red Fort, one of the most recognised monuments in India. Red Fort, located in Old Delhi, is also one of the most visited monuments in Delhi.
