Dover is one of England’s major port towns. Dover Castle, a medieval castle set atop a small hill, is one of the most popular attractions in the area and definitely worth a pit stop. However the highlight of a drive to Dover is The White Cliffs of Dover, which are limestone cliffs overlooking the English Channel. The White Cliffs provide a number of hiking and walking trails for outdoorsy people. There is no better place for a day trip from London on a sunny day. The walking trails in the area provide scenic views of the surrounding pastures and uninterrupted views of the sea. On a clear day, it’s also possible to see France across the English Channel. Dover is also the gateway to continental Europe. A short ferry ride gets visitors to Calais in France, so it’s the perfect location to plan an impromptu getaway to Paris.
