Dublin is not known as a particularly pretty city, but there is enough to do and see here to create a great city break—and of course Dubliners themselves are amongst most welcoming in the world, always up for a good 'craic'. Memorable experiences—outside the pubs, some now world-class restaurants, and reading James Joyce beside the Liffey—include the Guinness Brewery, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Trinity College, Dublin Castle, Christ Church, Temple Bar, St Stephen's Green, Old Jameson Distillery and Kilmainham Jail. This Jail tour provides some great and evocative background to understanding the Irish Revolution, the heroes of which stand as statues off O'Connell Street. For hanging out and general buzz, head for the area of Temple Bar.
