Timangarh Fort was made in 1100 AD at a distance of 40 km from Karauli in Masalpur district. Soon after its construction, it was destroyed in an attack, and then again renovated by Raja Timanpal. It is a belief that the fort has ancient ashtadathu (eight metals) and stone idols hidden in its underbelly. The fort is located on the banks of Sagar Talab (lake) which, as per the locals, has the Paras Patthar (touchstone) somewhere at its base. Paras Patthar is gifted with the power of transforming anything it touches into gold. Figures of mythological gods and goddesses have been engraved on the pillars of the fort. The geometrical and flower patterned carvings on different parts of the fort catches the sight of art lovers. Several Muslim invaders have robbed the fort of its treasures in the past, hence it lacks the lustre that was once a part of it glorious identity. However, on the entrance walls of the fort has designs depicting Mughal influence, not the interiors.
