Kalpa is small town located on a hill few kilometers above Rekong Peo—the administrative capital of Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Kalpa is most famous for some of the best views of Kinner Kailash range of Himalayas. You can also view the Shivling Peak from Kalpa that changes colour through the day. These mountains are considered sacred both by the Hindus and Buddhists. As per mythological beliefs, it is believed that Kinner Kailash range of Himalayas is the winter home of Lord Shiva. He comes to this place in winters when the climate is perfect for meditating. You can see these peaks from most places in Kalpa town. You must pray for a clear day for you to be able to see these peaks properly else enjoy the play of clouds that keep hiding and revealing the peaks and keep you guessing which cloud potentially has a peak hidden in its folds. Kalpa is also known for being the native place of first Indian voter and thus also having the first Indian polling station in a local school. Like most hill stations, Kalpa has a suicide point—a steep 90 degrees of rock that can take you down few hundred meters in a jiffy, but to tell you the truth no suicide has ever been committed here. The view of small villages on the other side of valley from suicide point is what makes it worth a visit to this point.
