George Everest, who was the former Surveyor General of India and after whom the world’s highest peak has been named, is a popular name in Mussoorie as his home turned into a famous tourist site over the years. As per the plans, stargazing activities and a cartography museum will be organised here and built as per the redevelopment plans of the said spot.
Further, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) is planning to redevelop Sir George Everest’s house into a cartography museum. UTDB Secretary, referring to this development, said that the Survey of India will be working with them on this project. He further mentioned that conceptualisations and installations of equipment in the said museum will also be done by the Survey of India.
And after the redevelopment process is completed, UTDB will take the reins of operating the Everest House.
