Tourists will soon have another good attraction to look forward to during their visit to Gorakhpur city. According to the latest reports, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has sanctioned a proposal to allocate INR 234 crore for building a zoological garden, which shall be named after Shaheed Ashfaqullah Khan. The zoo will cover a massive area of more than 121 ac. Reportedly, a UP government spokesperson told the press that the objective was to lure tourists and improve employment opportunities for the local residents.
The idea to build Shaheed Ashfaqullah Khand Zoological Garden was brought forward in 2008 - 2009. On behalf of the government, Cabinet Minister Srikant Sharma told the press that once this zoological garden is ready, Gorakhpur will turn into a tourist spot for a wider variety of visitors including international tourists.
