Great Barrier Reef soon to get a patrol vessel with night detection technology

Saving Great Barrier Reef in Australia from extinction has become one of the prime priorities of the Australian authorities these days. One of the biggest threats in the region is poaching; to curb this illegal activity, the marine authorities of Australia have prepared a high-speed Reef Sentinel with night detection technology to protect the reef and the surrounding area. Positioned on Magnetic Island, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will make use of this custom-built vessel, which costs around $ 735,000.
This vessel will be of great help in protecting the reef as it will be covering a large distance, thanks to its high-tech design. The state-of-the-art product is well-equipped with over-the-horizon radar abilities. This feature will enable tracing of any shape or size of vessels poaching from no-take zones during night time in the region.

The Great Barrier Reef is in grave danger and conservationists are worried that it will disappear if strict actions are not taken to stop poaching. The concern over Great Reef dying as per some marine biologists is not correct. The biologists are of belief that the reef is undergoing changes due to changing climatic conditions. However, one cannot deny the fact that illegal activities like poaching have caused a huge disturbance in the marine life of reef and recently nearly 78 recreational fishing offences were confirmed by the authorities in the area.
Thankfully, people noticed the threat soon and marine authorities are in action now and trying to do every possible thing to protect this one of the most gorgeous natural wonders in the world. Authorities are hoping that with the introduction of this vessel, things will be much better now as protecting natural splendours is every human’s responsibility!
