The enchanting Tamhini Ghat in Maharashtra is presently competing with Cherrapunji, recording more rainfall than Cherrapunji this monsoon season. On similar lines, Mahabaleshwar is also recording big numbers when it comes to rainfall.
Mahabaleshwar has, in fact, had 15 spells of rain, all of which have been in 3-digits. Three out of those 15 spells have been over 300 mm of rain, while seven of them were over 200 mm. Cherrapunji experienced only 10 spells in the same period of time, and two of those were of 300 mm, while three were 200 mm.
These numbers show how Tamhini Ghat and Mahabaleshwar have been competing with Cherrapunji, and potentially Mawsynram, to become the wettest place on earth. Nothing is official yet, but the fight, if we can refer to it as a fight, is on.
