Thailand’s third largest but most popular national Park, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Khao Yai lies just three hours north of Bangkok, and is home to several endangered species of animals. Easily accessed by either bus or taxi, this is the beautiful forest that Leonardo’s character was banished to in the film The Beach. Divided into four provinces—Saraburi, Nakhon Nayok, Nakhon Ratchasima and Prachinburi—a hike through the park will take you through thickly forested mountain slopes, deep valleys and gushing waterfalls. In addition to the Park, make it a point to visit the neighbouring vineyards which produce some of Thailand’s award-winning labels. In accommodation, choose between a large number of guest houses, hotels, and even a few fancier Thai resorts.
