It seems like Hyderabad is all set to become the next big regional aviation hub in India. This was reassured when popular low-cost airline Indigo started its ART operations from the city. This came along as the second big boost to Hyderabad’s airport as back in 2011, Spicejet had made it their first base of operations for the Bombardier Q400 turboprop.
Trusted by most tourists for domestic travel, Indigo intends to make its connectivity to tier-II and tier-III cities better by making Hyderabad its hub for ATR operations. The first ATR flight that is supposed to take off from this airport would be Hyderabad to Mangalore.
Apart from all this, propelling Hyderabad airport’s prospects even further in becoming an aviation hub is Jet Airways’ plan to lease out a good number of aircrafts to Trujet for running regional flights from the destination.
While Trujet already has flights from Hyderabad to 12 domestic destinations including Aurangabad, Bellary, Bengaluru, Chennai, Cuddapah, Goa, Mumbai, Mysuru, Nanded, Rajahmundry, Tirupati and Vijayawada, the local airline plans to expand even further and increase its number of flights from the city’s airport by March 2018.
While on the one hand there’s the UDAN scheme of the government boosting the growth of regional flights across the country, on the other hand, Hyderabad’s centralised location and seismically safe zone, coupled with a modern airport, are factors that are drawing the attention of airlines that could together make it the next big aviation hub in India.
