One of the best kept secrets of Cambodia is its tropical islands. Cambodia’s islands are in the Gulf of Thailand and share the same ocean waters as all the Thai islands so are identical in many ways. That said, the Cambodian islands are far less developed and secluded than the extremely popular Thai islands. Koh Rong is one of the most well-known islands and only about 45 minutes off Sihanoukville coast. To get there you can catch the speed ferry from Sihanoukville for $20 return (confirm your return date) which takes just 45 minutes. Tickets are available at the pier or at one of the many travel agents in Sihanoukville. There are also slower’party boats’ and day trips available that head to Koh Rong each day. On the island there are several secluded bays surrounded by coconut trees and hidden tracks. There are many guesthouses and cheap bungalows available, depending on your budget. Being mainly a backpacker paradise, there is a party somewhere every night(even a full moon party!) Being largely underdeveloped, there aren’t many up-market hotels here, but we can expect some upscale establishments with time.
