Laxmi Narayan Temple

Also known as Birla Mandir, the Laxmi Narayan Temple is one of the most significant temples in Delhi. Situated on Mandir Marg near Connaught Place, it was built by the industrialist BD Birla and his son JK Birla in 1939 and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. Built in the Odisha style of architecture, it has tall spires and an exterior made of red and ochre stone and white marble. Spread over 7.5 acres, the temple is dedicated to the Hindu deities Laxmi (the goddess of prosperity) and Narayan (the preserver), with small shrines for Shiva and Durga. These are surrounded by a large garden and numerous waterfalls and fountains. Located to the north of the temple, the complex also houses the Geeta Bhawan dedicated to Krishna.
