Located half an hour away from central Lisbon, the town of Sintra was described by Lord Byron as probably the most beautiful spot in the world. Even today, hardly anyone will disagree with the great poet’s judgment when they see the tranquil mountainous domain ornamented with parks, gardens and architectural masterpieces, Pena Palace being the most commanding one. This UNESCO World Heritage listed edifice was built in the 19th century by King Ferdinand II and reflects a unique integration of early 19th century Romanticism and maritime motif mixed with Arabic influences in dome and minaret constructions. It stands today over the ruins of a 16th century monastery founded on the site of the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Pena.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
