Another prominent tourist attraction in Jodhpur is the man-made Balsamand Lake, which was built in the year 1159 by Balak Rao Parihar. Around 5 km from the main city, this lake is surrounded with stretches of lush, serene greenery. Besides, there are several mango, papaya, plum and pomegranate trees in the garden near the lake, adding to the beauty of the place. The Balsamand Lake Palace is another feather in the cap of Jodhpur that served as the summer resort to the royal family of Rajasthan. Made using red sandstone, this grand palace is a fine example of the Rajputana style of architecture. If you are lucky, you can also see some rare birds and peacocks dancing in the green gardens here.
