One of the two operational synagogues in the City of Joy, the Magen David Synagogue, is a prominent place of worship in Kolkata. While the synagogue does not pull a lot of tourists, the architecture definitely calls for appreciation. Constructed in the Italian Renaissance style with red brick finish, there is a tall spire that rises above the structure like a beacon. Sadly, though the entrance to this grand structure is absolutely hidden due to the presence of small shops selling trinkets and other small items. The interiors are extremely pretty with ornate floral pillars. The delicate stained glasses shine like jewels. If you want to appreciate the hidden Jewish jewels of the city, do visit this exquisite monument. The architectural grandeur of the synagogue will definitely charm the socks off you.
