The historical centre

As with all Italian cities, Genoa’s historical centre is where art, architecture, gastronomy, history, and culture collide to seduce tourists. It’s easy to spend a couple of days exploring Genoa’s large city centre. The labyrinthine alleys, also known as Caruggi, house a whole host of famed and anonymous treasures. There’s enough to tickle everyone’s fancy.
Start at the museums that dot the Strada Nuova. This is one of the most sought-after quarters of the city and there is no shortage of museums to visit here. Drool over famous artworks from the 15th, 16th, and 18th centuries. Don’t forget to visit the Doge Palace, the seat of the Republic since centuries. If you’re tired of all the walking, relax in one of the popular piazzas (squares)—we love Piazza de Ferrari. Locals love to spend their lunch breaks and evenings in these piazzas and there truly is no better way of relaxing in Genoa.
