An ideal day trip destination, Shivanasamudra is also called Bluff, and is the place where the river Cauvery splits and jumps over a massive rocky hill to form the most stunning waterfalls. The area is surrounded by thick forested hills and lush greenery and the white, foamy rushing water makes for compelling viewing. The waterfall is about 73 m in height and the forge below appears rather forbidding owing to the noise and the velocity. Interestingly, the twin falls merge during monsoons to become one continuous sheet and fall with a deafening roar. Such is the volume of water and the speed at which it rushes that people standing 100 feet away at the viewing platform can feel the spray. Adjacent to the falls is the location of a hydro-electric plant, the first in Asia which goes back to 1902.
