Tejas Express trains to provide taxi and hotel booking, food of choice to passengers

Soon, passengers travelling in Indian trains will be able to book hotels, arrange taxi, baggage pick and drop, order food online and much more. However, these facilities will be enjoyed only by passengers travelling on the Delhi-Lucknow and Mumbai-Ahmedabad Tejas Express trains.
As per the reports, the Indian Railways is working towards using the services of private stakeholders and business organisations to provide amenities like hotel bookings, baggage pick and drop, provide taxi facility from the house to the station and vice versa, entertainment services, wheelchair and food delivery to its customers.


News has it that the Indian Railways is considering employing a regulating authority to fix a ceiling for fares even before private operators are permitted to run the trains. This initiative will control private players from hiking ticket prices during festivals and other special occasions. The regulator will deal with fare, safety and allocation of routes. The trains and routes will be allocated via a fair bidding process. For the time being, the railways have decided to give two Tejas Express trains to private players. However, the train coaches and locomotives will be taken care of by the Indian Railways and not the private entities.

Since there are different customers with different budgets, the railways will soon come up with a policy that will enable passengers to order desired food via e-catering by paying a fair price for their order. People who may want to spend nothing more than INR 50 can get dosa, puri-sabzi, chole bhature etc. On the other hand, passengers who can pay INR 200-INR 250 can order their food via e-catering.

In November 2019, the railways will start a new Tejas Express train on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.
