Murten

Murten is a town of formidable turrets and spires and looks like it has emerged from the golden past. The lake sparkles in all its glory while the massive town wall acts as an indomitable guard, protecting it from the elements and from unknown evil forces. However, unlike most other walls in Switzerland, you can freely walk around Murten’s ramparts and discover the magic of this holiday resort. The town is also home to a museum that details several thousand years of the history of the region.

Nestled on top of a tiny hill, watching the sunset over the Murten lake is stuff made out of your happiest dreams. This lake also offers unparalleled windsurfing, water-skiing, canoeing, sailing and kayaking opportunities and you mustn’t miss these for the world. You could cycle and skate along Murten’s charming trails for over a hundred kilometres and even head to Mont Vully for lovely views of the Alps and Jura. Tasting some Vully wine along the way is the icing on the cake. There are boat excursions to Biel/Bienne and Neuchatel for those who would like to turn their day trip into a short stay. Murten certainly is the mother of all tourist destinations in the Fribourg region.
