History beckons in ancient quarters – located on the foothills of Mount Agios Ilias, and Mount Zara, this splendid archaeological site is not to be missed. The ancient city has found its name in the works of Homer and other Greek authors. It is known as the city of Agamemnon in mythology, and is full of wonders, such as, the remains of palaces, fountains, ramparts, and so on. The place also holds, the Tomb of Agamemnon. Needless to say, in the ancient times, this kingdom was considered to be one of the most powerful, and its glory is now only visible through its beautiful ruins. The trip to this place can be done while you are at Nafplio, as you can visit this on your way back to Athens. It is located only about 90 km southwest of Athens. The site is inducted in the UNESCO World Heritage list of sites.
