Mysore is hosting a Winter Festival to promote tourism

The winter festival in Mysuru is all set to catch momentum in the new year. This 10-day winter festival was inaugurated on December 22, which was a low-key affair. However, elaborate plans are already in place to turn this event into a grand affair. While Mysore attracts tons of tourists during Dasara festival, Winter Festival is the next big thing this year. It is expected that this 10-day festival will also be a major crowd puller.

The Mysore District Administration, Mysore Palace Board, and Karnataka Tourism Department have organised this festival in such a manner that tourists find a lot of things to do apart from going around for usual sightseeing activity.
As per the latest news reports, there will be a 17 ft tall statue of Maharaja Jayachamaraja of the Wadiyar dynasty, to pay tribute on the occasion of his hundredth birth anniversary. Further, comic characters like Chota Bheem and Mr. Bean will also be featuring as floral statues to cater the kids. During this 10-day affair, the main attraction is the Flower Show that is held in the popular Mysore Palace premises.
The entire place is also illuminated just like it gets decorated during Dasara from 7 PM to 9 PM. Apart from the flower shows, open-street festivals are also held that features cultural activities, puppet shows, guided heritage walks, movie screening and cycle tours.
Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry in Mysore hosts a dedicated food festival as a part of the event, which features organic and tribal foods like bamboo rice dishes, Makali roots, and bamboo rice payasam. On December 31, a wonderful exhibition will also be held.

Further, with the motive of using this opportunity, the district administration and Forest Department have also teamed up to organise bird watching tours for bird and wildlife lovers.
