The Asam Church

It was built in 1733 by the Asam brothers as their private chapel with lavish decorations. The Baroque facade of the church is quite unusual for a church. The architects Cosmas Damian Asam and Egid Quirin Asam used their own imagination and ideas to design this tiny extravagant house of worship. The church drew severe criticism for its private status, and was soon opened to the public after protests by the locals. The opulent interiors make up for the unassuming exterior of the church. The Asam House adjacent to the church was the residential quarter of the family.
