The city's ghats along the Ganges River are famous for ritualistic bathing and cremation ceremonies. Bodh Gaya, Bihar
Bodh Gaya is the most sacred site for Buddhists, where Prince Siddhartha attained enlightenment and became Gautama Buddha. The Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, marks the location and is surrounded by monasteries and shrines built by Buddhist communities from around the world.

Velankanni is a significant Christian pilgrimage site, known for the Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health. This church, often referred to as the "Lourdes of the East," attracts millions of pilgrims annually, especially during the festival of Our Lady of Good Health in September.
Palitana, Gujarat
Palitana is a major Jain pilgrimage destination, home to the Shatrunjaya hill with over 865 temples. The temples, known for their exquisite marble architecture and intricate carvings, are considered the most sacred sites for Jains. Pilgrims climb thousands of steps to reach the summit, where the main temple is dedicated to Lord Adinath, the first Tirthankara.
Haridwar, Uttarakhand
Haridwar, situated along the banks of the Ganges River, is one of the holiest places in Hinduism. It is famous for the Kumbh Mela, held every twelve years, attracting millions of pilgrims. The city's ghats, particularly Har Ki Pauri, are revered for ritualistic bathing and the Ganga Aarti, a daily prayer ceremony dedicated to the river.
Shravanabelagola, Karnataka
Shravanabelagola is renowned for the colossal statue of Gommateshwara Bahubali, one of the largest monolithic statues in the world. This 57-foot-high statue is a major pilgrimage site for Jains. Every twelve years, the Mahamastakabhisheka festival is held, during which the statue is anointed with various offerings in a grand ceremony attended by thousands of devotees.
