From unique tradition and culture to language and food, there’s so much to see and do in the northeast. Here are some of the places you need to visit to start your New Year on a fun and adventurous note.
Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh
Dibang Valley is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Arunachal Pradesh. The valley is perpetually covered in mist. Scenic, cold, far away from the hustle and bustle of the towns, Dibang Valley is a great quiet getaway. And quite an adventurous one too. Most part of the Mishmi Hills falls in Dibang Valley and this region is very popular among trekkers and wildlife enthusiasts, especially the birding community.
Guwahati - Dibrugarh in Assam
Cruising is one of the best ways to experience Assam and the mighty Brahmaputra River. There are several cruise services available from Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Tezpur. Give yourself 4-10 days for these cruises. Brahmaputra River Cruise and MV Mahabaahu Brahmaputra River Cruise are some of the best river cruises in Assam.
Shillong in Meghalaya
The capital city of Shillong will be all festive during this time of the year and what better than being a part of all those festivities? With Shillong as your base, you can do easy trips to Cherrapunji, Mawsynram, Jowai, Dawki, and will also be able to do adventure activities like trekking and caving. Don’t get stuck in traffic jams, while in the city, you can easily walk around.
Champhai Valley in Mizoram
One of the most picturesque valleys in northeastern India, Champhai is as offbeat as they come. The valley is remote so you can expect a lot of peace and quiet here in Champhai. Mornings are the most stunning and dramatic with golden sunlight trying to penetrate the mist-covered valley. Champhai Valley is a photographer’s delight.
Yumthang Valley in Sikkim
If you love snow, Yumthang Valley is the place for you. Just 15 km from Yumthang Valley there is a very popular tourist place called Zero Point. There are no civilian roads beyond this point, hence the name. Also around is Yumesamdong, a place with a number of hot springs for you to experience.
