Delhi-NCR to experience heavy rains on July 25 and 26, red and orange alert

Good news for those eagerly waiting for showers in Delhi-NCR. In a forecast done by the Met department, Delhi is going to get drenched by heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms till July 27. The department has released ‘red’ alert for Thursday and ‘orange’ for Friday. In fact, several areas in the region experienced rainfall on Wednesday evening and night as well.
Not only Delhi-NCR, but the forecast is for the entire northwest region of India. Downpours will continue over several regions of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in the coming days. Heavy rains will also bring along winds.

The numbers speak
Till July 24, Delhi received 156.4 mm rainfall and weathermen at IMD have forecasted heavy downpour for the next 48 hours in the city. Heavy rain is when the reading reaches above 64.5 mm, while ‘very heavy’ is counted when the reading crosses 115.6 mm of rainfall.

In the statement issued by the department, it was mentioned, “Wide spread rain/thundershowers will occur over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh between July 24 and July 27 due to this system”.

Meanwhile, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation has also released a statement against the alert that read, “There is heavy rain expected in north corporation area from Wednesday evening. All temporary waterlogging, if any, be cleared immediately.”

Temperature

The rain will also bring down the soaring temperature. On Wednesday, 37.8 degrees Celsius was the maximum recorded temperature (three degrees above normal) while the minimum was recorded at 29.2 degrees Celsius. The temperature is likely to fall gradually with the heavy rain forecast in the region.
