Encompassing regional art, natural science and performing arts, the Palm Springs Art Museum is walk-through of 24,000 exhibits that include numerous paintings, sculptures and artefacts from American history. Some of those include works by Henry Moore (an English sculptor and artist best known for his semi-abstract monumental bronze sculptures), Ed Ruscha (a renowned American artist associated with the pop art movement), and Mark di Suvero (a well-known American abstract expressionist sculptor). The museum, formerly known as the Palm Springs Desert Museum, was established in 1938, and showcases historical specimens of ceramics, lithics, tools, weapons, minerals, fossils, and rocks. The museum also houses an intimate 437-seat theatre where music and dance concerts are staged frequently.
