The Shilin Night Market, the capital's largest, has put Shilin district on the map. Talk of the town: Late Republic of China President Chiang Kai-Shek once lived in the Shilin Official Residence on Zhongshan North Road. It is thought the grounds contain a hidden tunnel connecting to the Presidential office in downtown Taipei.

Located north of the city's centre and south of Tianmu, Shilin is also history heavy with the National Palace Museum, Chiang Kai-Shek Shilin Residence, the Martyr's Shrine and the majestic Grand Hotel all good stops for those after a taste of times gone by.
