Located on one of the many deltaic islands, Bakkhali is a prominent beach destination near Kolkata. Around 125 kilometres from the city, Bakkhali attracts a lot of tourists throughout the year. Apart from strolling on the muddy beach, one can explore a few attractions that are peppered across the region. A walk till Frasergunj is a rewarding experience indeed. A small island named Jambu Dwip is another attraction that can be reached only by boat services—either country boats or motor boats. Reaching this uninhabited and forested island across the sea is an absolutely thrilling experience altogether. However, a note of warning—if you are fainthearted, you may choose to skip this activity as you need to cover at least 10 kilometres across the sea. Henry’s Island is another popular attraction at Bakkhali which is barely 10 minutes away. A rickshaw is probably the best way to reach the spot. Do remember to tour the Watch Tower at Henry’s Island. You can also explore the Bhagabatpur Crocodile Project which is located on the banks of the Saptamukhi Estuary, close to Bakkhali. Read less
