India Bazaar

If you're missing the sites and smells of home, head to Gerrard Street East to soak up the atmosphere of Toronto's original little India, India Bazaar. The street acquired its Indian flavour in the 1970s when waves of immigrants from South Asia moved in. The first generation offered traditional Indian merchandise, but a new generation is shaking things up with stores like Rang that sell colourful Indian fusion home decor.
India Bazaar is a one-stop shopping destination for ‘all things Indian’. You'll find clothing and jewellery stores, music and video stores, Indian grocers selling everything from green chilies to Haldiram's chaats and of course restaurants. Food is the primary reason locals and visitors alike flock to India Bazaar. In warmer weather, the street is lined with street food favourites like grilled corn, fresh sugar cane juice and golgappa bhel puri. Restaurants galore include the popular Lahore Tikka House and my personal favourite, Udupi Palace, with the best dosas this side of Kerala.
