The Forum of Augustus used to stretch between the high walls at the foot of the Suburra quarter, till the edge of the Forum of Cesar. It was built to celebrate Augustus’ victory over Brutus and Cassius (the assassins of Cesar) in 41 BC. For this reason, the temple at the centre of the Forum was dedicated to Mars, the Avenger. The temple can be easily identified by its cracked steps, and the four Corinthian columns. It used to have a statue of Mars that very much resembled Augustus. And in case anybody failed to notice the resemblance, another huge statue of Augustus was placed against the wall of the Suburra quarter.
