Wat Traimit

While markedly smaller in scale than most temples on this list, Wat Traimit features a Buddha that’s famous the world over. The gold Buddha seated inside the wat isn’t just the largest of its kind in Thailand, but in the entire globe! The impressive statue weighs in at approximately 5.5 tonnes and is estimated to be worth an astounding 250 million dollars. Suffice it to say, the wat’s alternate name is the Temple of the Golden Buddha.
This is another good temple to rest quietly or sit in solitude for a bit. Having said that, tourists on a tight schedule should be able to whip in and out fairly quickly since it’s a relatively small structure. The main incentive for most travellers here is to get a few good photographs of the shiny gold Buddha. Keep in mind that Wat Traimit is quite traditional and visitors’ clothing and behaviour should respect this. There are a fair number of stairs throughout the temple, so it might not be ideal for older adults or those in wheelchairs.
