Turkey's shores are washed over by three different seas, making for a very varied coastline. The Mediterranean coast is also referred to as the Turquoise Coast, for the amazing colours of the ocean, but it's also the section of coast behind which most of the country's most impressive Roman ruins await discovery anew. The Black Sea is the coolest and quietest, but it also has some naturally spectacular blue green gems, and Aegean is the Asian Minor of ancient Greece, the place of Homer and his mythology, with rocky cliffs overlooking sandy bays. The mix of neat sandy crescents and shingle, clear bottomed bays are sometimes overlooked for the tropical idylls of the Caribbean, but both Ölüdeniz and Patara Beach have been called the 'world's best beach' by the international press, so Turkey is well worth your consideration if your main holiday credential is a beautiful, sunny beach.
