Where the pretty people play (and eat)
Noteworthy for: The achingly cool décor is helped along by an expansive tank (just behind the bar) sporting iridescent jellyfish.
Talk of the town: The team of celebrated chefs here between them have cooked for Madonna, George Clooney, Bill Clinton, Anna Wintour, Hillary Swank and Denzel Washington.
Many tout Okku as the city’s best Japanese restaurant. In truth, the menu’s more fusion, listing Nobu-inspired hot plates like miso black cod and crunchy soft shell crab alongside the usual sushi and sashimi. Semantics aside, the food is excellent.
When it comes to a stylish setting, however, there’s no competition: dark, sexy and sophisticated, Okku is Dubai’s trendiest restaurant. At the weekends, the bar picks up and it turns into quite a party place. If you want to make a night of it make sure to book a table in advance, or you'll be seated at the less stylish sushi counter.
