Peter Cat

The renowned restaurant opened its doors way back in the early 60s and has managed to survive both—fire and ravages of time. Years down the line it continues to be extremely popular with the crowd of Kolkata. Legend has it that the restaurant was named after a famous cat (named Peter) whose residence was the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from 1952 to 1964. Surely, a precious gift for a city that is completely crazy about cricket. The décor and the dimly-lit interiors speak of history. The waiters look resplendent in their red and white Rajasthani outfits; quite a contrast to a restaurant that served multi-cuisine dishes.

The menu that comes in the shape of a cat’s head has some absolute delights. The legendary Chelo Kebab is a must have while you are visiting Peter Cat. Chelo Kebab is an Iranian (Persian) in which freshly baked kebabs are served in a bed of long grained rice. At Peter Cat it is served with one set of chicken kebab and mutton kebab. The house special sizzler served with pork sausages, chicken steak, vegetables and eggs is another iconic dish of the restaurant. If you love vegetarian food, do take an extra serving of the Persian Pulao and Nentara (a chef’s special fresh garden vegetables deliciously spiced). Save some appetite for some exotic desserts like fruit salad and cream, cream caramel and soufflé of the day.
