Temple Street Night MarketShop, eat and haggle at Hong Kong's famous night market

Word to the wise: When shopping here, keep in mind that the vendors have become accustomed to tourists paying top dollar. If you want a lower price, be prepared to negotiate and possibly walk away.

The sight of row upon row of brightly lit stalls signals the start of Temple Street Night Market – a bargain hunter's dream. Watches, jewellery, clothes, silks, bags, CDs and luggage are hawked by vendors, always ready to make a deal.

Combine shopping with dinner from one of the many street food vendors selling a variety of traditional foods, such as delicious chilli crab and succulent chicken skewers. Start at the intersection with Jordan Road, where a number of simple restaurants have sprung up, then shop to your heart's content. End at Market Street, where Chinese fortune-tellers sit behind colourful booths and Chinese opera singers belt out tunes.
