A historical place of interest in Jabalpur, Madan Mahal is located on top of a hill in Jabalpur, and was founded by Gond rulers. Dating back to 11th Century AD, the fort is a relic of the past, and is associated with Gond Queen Rani Durgavati, and also her son Madan Singh. The fort is a small one, and is considered to be one of the finest ancient monuments of India, with interesting segments such as, stable, war rooms, small reservoir, and main pleasure chamber still existing for tourists to marvel at. Located at a height of 500 m on a hill, there is also a Balancing Rock here sitting on the tip of another rock. Legend has it that the fort harbours gold bricks and treasure of the Gond dynasty, and there is also an underground tunnel that could be an escape route. All of these intriguing things make Madan Mahal a must visit.
