Only in New Orleans can a simple shaved ice confection be turned into an icon. At Hansen’s Sno-Bliz, an establishment that came into being in 1939, the original ice-shaving machines are still in use. But what makes this a must visit place is the fact that the syrups and flavours are all done in house and new innovative ones come up at regular intervals to tease the taste buds of the loyal clientele. The soft fluff shaved ice is heaped into cones or tall cups and doused in psychedelic colours and flavours which include ones such as ginger cayenne, cream of wedding cakes, brown pelican which is root beer, and even tart flavours such as Satsuma.
